2 Honey Recipes

In May, we celebrate World Bee Day. These little creatures are not only essential to the balance of our natural world, they produce that healing and tasty substance that Ayurveda sees as pure blessing.


Ayurvedic Honey Lemon Water

Benefits

Lemon water helps to flush out toxins from the body and promote digestion while Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties and can help improve overall immunity. Note: Ayurveda recommends using raw honey instead of processed honey for maximum benefits.


Ingredients

1 cup of warm water 2 1/2 lemon 3 1 tsp of honey 4 A pinch of turmeric powder (optional)

Instructions

Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into a cup of warm water. Add 1 tsp of honey to the lemon water and stir until the honey is dissolved. If desired, add a pinch of turmeric powder to the mixture and stir well. Drink the honey lemhton water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach

Weight loss: When consuming honey before bed, the body burns more fat during the early hours of sleep. Honey makes the liver produce more glucose, this keeps the brain sugar level high and forces the system to produce fat burning hormones as well as preventing us from feeling hungry.

Have 1 tsp of honey before bed to help in your weight loss efforts.

 

Ayurvedic Honey and Turmeric Roasted Vegetables


Ingredients

  • 4 cups of chopped mixed vegetables (such as sweet potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, or asparagus, courgettes)

  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil

  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp of cumin powder

  • 1/4 tsp of coriander powder

  • Himalayan Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tbsp of honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. In a large bowl, mix the chopped vegetables, coconut oil, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, and pepper until the vegetables are coated evenly.

  3. Spread the vegetable mixture on a baking sheet and roast in the oven for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and slightly browned.

  4. Drizzle 2 tbsp of honey over the roasted vegetables and toss gently to coat evenly.

  5. Serve the honey and turmeric roasted vegetables as a side dish or over a bed of quinoa or brown rice for a complete meal.

 

DiD YOU KNOW?

Do not mix honey in boiling water- either stop the kettle before boiling point or wait for 5 minutes before adding honey to your tea. Honey, when mixed with boiling water does turn toxic for the body.

Do not mix honey and ghee as it creates toxins and leads to allergy.
